LED Lighting

May 15th, 2012

LED Lighting is a light-emitting diode and a semiconductor source of light. They are mainly used in devices as indicator lamps. Introduced in 1962, the early versions gave off a low intensity red light, but these have developed across visible, ultraviolet and infrared wavelengths to give out very high levels of brightness. An LED is usually an area less than 1 mm2, and optical components (integrated) shape the radiation pattern and assist in the reflection. Some advantages are as follows: Lower Energy Consumption Longer Lifetime Improved Strength Smaller Size Faster Switching More Reliable Durable They are a more diverse replacement for traditional lighting in such things as auto-lighting, video displays etc.A frequently asked question is LED lighting a greener alternative?

Governments around the world have banned incandescent lamps for the energy saving variety of LEDs, with provision being put into place to promote LED lighting along with the above benefits and the high brightness levels offered. Household lighting in the future will soon be the wide spread adoption and use of white LED light bulbs. The present market for finished white LED lighting leans towards green enthusiasts who have adopted the lighting source early. Eventually the efficiency and cost effectiveness of these systems will create a drive in demand for a more affordable range or brand of LED lighting, and could eventually be cheap and powerful enough to fully replace incandescent lighting in homes, shops, offices and also outdoor street lighting. The operational life of white LED lamps stands currently at 100,000 hours.

This equates to 11 years of continuous operation, or 22 years of 50% operation. Therefore, taking into account that the average life of an ordinary bulb is 5,000 hours the contrast is stark ando n the afarementioned evidence it would appear that LEDs could eventually eliminate the need for routine bulb replacement.
